Understanding the Elderly Challenge

Q1.Explain in your own words, the FOUR key recommendations of the report.

The four key recommendations are HOUSING,ACCESSIBILITY,CARING,OPPORTUNITIES.Their main objective is to target the elderly group .
HOUSING-building more elderly friendly houses to lessen their difficulties.
ACCESSIBILITY-more places that are accessible to the elderly for them to carry out their daily activities like cycling,jogging.
CARING-More services and caregivers to actually help them to overcome their difficulties either physically or mentally.
OPPORTUNITIES-Providing opportunities for the elderly to socialize for example hanging out with friends and spending the weekends with their family

Q2.State ONE way that the CAI report is recommending to make our public housing more elderly-friendly

They are recommending to the market players or partners to offer a everse mortgage schemes just for the elderly HDB flat for them to lessee at commercial terms,so as to provide another option for seniors to get some income from their homes to meet their expenditure in old age, without having to move out of their

ONE:MOH should review the ElderShield scheme, with the aim to improve the coverage for elderly Singaporeans who require long term care.

TWO:MOH should review the Medisave policy to allow Medisave withdrawals for the treatment of some common chronic diseases, particularly those commonly affecting the seniors
